Rustic Maliboo Barbie

The idea for this shoot was to be as natural as possible by embracing my natural hair and letting it do what it wants. Also, my hair doesn’t stand a chance at the beach so why waste valuable time doing it into a particular style? I had recently washed my hair the day before and blow dried it with a heat protectant and leave-in so I left it as is. Make-up was very light and natural.

We (@Jonniefacephoto and I) thought this time at El Matador Beach was going to be low-tide. Boy were we wrong. We had the waves crashing into us almost instantly so we swung into action and got shots in as quickly as possibly. There had been plenty of times we were both racing to make sure my beach bag and flip flops weren’t swept away in the waves. To be frank, the ocean was pmsing and I wasn’t here for it but I should note that I’m especially proud of my ability to change in and out of 3 wet bathing suits, without any indecent exposure! It was a pretty busy day too. I was freezing, wet and hungry but we powered through and got some great shots.

Doing my own hair, make-up & styling for my photos as been challenging yet rewarding. It definitely helps me play more with my creativity and although I am just starting out, I want to move into more out of the box/abstract concepts.

The two landscape nature photos were shot by me, all others by Jonathan.
