PHOTO HACK: Apple Watch Self-Portraits

Wanted an elongated angle and forgot my tripod so the iPhone is on a low bucket propped at an upward angle.

Did you know that you can use your apple watch as a wireless remote to take your own self-portraits? Well, if you did great! If you didn’t, well now you do! Perhaps you are tired of not having anyone around to take your photos or you have friends who don’t know your angles (we all have them) or maybe, just maybe your friends don’t give you the 10 second, 30 frame combo you give them. Let’s go ahead and relieve them of this duty.

Use your Apple Watch as an alternative to the wireless remote you don’t always have on you. Though the wireless remote is very much effective; with the apple watch, you are able to frame your photo just how you like it, adjust where you are standing without the arduous task of running back and forth to your phone and tripod to reset the frame if you didn’t get “the shot”. This is a small but very effective hack for the IPhone and apple watch owners.

To add the camera app to your watch if it isn’t already there, do the following:

  • Open the Watch App on your phone.

  • Tap the My Watch tab.

  • Scroll to the Camera app, tap install.

I’m sharing just a few self portrait sessions here but all of my travels include a self portrait moment with my precious Apple Watch. Check out my last blog post on Los Cabos: Garza Blanca Resort for reference.

Happy Self Portraits!
